Can you use your Roth IRA to buy a laptop for crypto trading? The IRS says be careful.
• Occasional trades on your personal laptop = fine.
• A laptop purchased with Roth funds must be exclusively necessary for managing the account.
• If you’re doing crypto mining inside an IRA LLC, then yes — the Roth can own mining computers or video cards.
Bottom line: don’t push it unless you can prove the laptop is required solely for the Roth’s operations.
