While I often recommend LLCs for asset protection, there are specific situations where they’re not the right fit. For instance, if you’re trying to close on residential property with a conventional loan, your lender won’t allow you to close in the name of an LLC. I also explain why using an LLC when buying property subject-to can trigger a lender to call the loan due, potentially costing you the entire deal. Instead, a land trust is often a safer alternative in those cases.
