What Cash Assistance does the Government provide? | Episode 6 of Just the Facts: Do You Qualify?

Traditional “welfare” programs no longer exist in the United States. Instead the US provides other programs to assist those in need. -TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) provides short term cash (up to 60 months in a lifetime) for very low income families with children. -The EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) is a refundable credit on federal taxes that results in a tax refund based on income limits. -The CTC (Child Tax Credit) provides tax breaks on federal income taxes based on the number of children in a household. -SSI (Supplemental Security Income) supports the elderly or disabled with very low incomes. In total, these programs cost around 2.4% of the federal budget and reach tens of millions of people.
